The TCS Q2 results landed on 8 October 2026, and one number stood out. Tata Consultancy Services now earns an annualised $3.1 billion from AI work, which is more than 10% of its total revenue. Three months ago, that figure was about $2.6 billion.

TCS Q2 Results at a Glance

The quarter covers July to September 2026, which is Q2 of financial year 2027. TCS announced the numbers after market hours on Thursday.

According to the company's official results release, these were the key figures:

Revenue: ₹73,188 crore, up 1.3% from the June quarter and 11.2% from a year ago in rupee terms.
Dollar revenue: $7,642 million, up 0.2% from the June quarter.
Constant currency growth: 0.5% quarter on quarter.
Net profit: ₹13,884 crore, with a net margin of 19.0%.
Operating margin: 24.0%, the same as the June quarter.
Total contract value: $9.6 billion in new deals.
Workforce: 598,056 people, with IT services attrition at 13.3%.
Dividend: ₹12 per share, record date 14 October and payment on 30 October.

Reuters reported that TCS marginally beat revenue estimates as AI demand grew. CNBC-TV18 described the numbers as in line with, or slightly below, its analyst poll. In short, it was a steady quarter, not a breakout one.

How the market reacted

TCS shares opened about 3% higher on results day but slipped with a wider sell-off. They closed at ₹2,077, a little below the previous close. The stock is down about 36% so far this year, as per CNBC-TV18.

Sandeep Agarwal of Sowlio Investment Managers told the channel the numbers were "decent". He said the market had expected worse because of recent news from AI companies.

The Big Story: AI Revenue Crosses $3 Billion

For anyone in IT services, the AI figure matters more than the profit line. A run rate of $3.1 billion means AI work is now a real business line inside TCS, not a side project.

The jump from about $2.6 billion to $3.1 billion in one quarter works out to roughly 19% growth. That is far faster than the 0.5% growth of the company as a whole.

Aarthi Subramanian, President and COO, put it this way in the release:

"AI momentum remained strong, with annualized AI revenues now exceeding $3 billion. Demand for delivering business outcomes with AI-native solutions, AI-led transformation of enterprise systems and autonomous GBS, continues to accelerate."

She also said cybersecurity remains a top priority as customers focus on resilience and recovery. That lines up with what we hear from our own clients.

Where the AI work is showing up

TCS listed several AI projects and launches in the quarter. The ones most relevant to agencies are:

Porsche: a five-year partnership with a dedicated AI Mobility Centre of Excellence. TCS will also buy MHP, Porsche's German consulting arm, subject to regulatory approval.
Best Buy: TCS will take over the retailer's India Global Capability Center and turn it into an AI Capability Center.
Honeywell Technologies: TCS was picked as its global SAP S/4HANA transformation partner.
Drug development: a new platform called TCS ADD AgentHub uses agentic AI for clinical trials and drug safety work.
Physical AI: a lights-out factory lab in Pune and an engineering lab in Bengaluru built with NVIDIA.
Gemini centres: new Google Cloud Gemini Experience Centers in Mexico City and Kolkata.

CEO K Krithivasan called the Porsche and Best Buy deals "a new category of transformation partnerships." He added: "Together with our clients, we are building repeatable value platforms that will industrialize AI at scale."

What the TCS Q2 Results Say About Margins and Pricing

Margins stayed flat at 24.0%. CNBC-TV18 noted this was close to, but slightly under, the 24.2% its poll expected.

The reason is simple. TCS got relief as the impact of first quarter wage hikes eased. But it put part of that money back into AI and data centre capacity. So the gain did not show up in margins.

There is a second pressure that every services firm feels. Before the results, CNBC-TV18 reported that clients are asking for price cuts at contract renewal as AI makes work faster. Analysts call this AI deflation. If a task takes half the time, the client wants to pay less for it.

That is the tension inside these numbers. AI is growing fast as a revenue line. At the same time, AI is shrinking the price of older, routine work.

Headcount is growing, but slowly

TCS added 4,258 people in the quarter, according to Zee Business. Learning hours rose 17% from the June quarter to 17.1 million. The company also said over 367,000 staff now have higher AI and machine learning skills.

In a July interview with The Financial Express, Krithivasan said TCS already had about 2,500 AI agents delivering client work. He said there would no longer be a linear link between the volume of work and the number of people employed.

For agencies, that sentence is worth reading twice. The old model of billing by headcount is under real strain.

Why the India Business Fell 10.3%

One number in the TCS Q2 results surprised many readers. India revenue fell 10.3% from the June quarter in constant currency. Yet it still grew 6% from a year earlier.

India was the only market with a double-digit sequential drop, as StoryBoard18 pointed out. It now makes up 5.5% of TCS revenue, down from 6.2% in the June quarter.

The international business grew 1.2% in constant currency. Here is how each market moved from the June quarter:

TCS did not give one reason for the India dip in the release. Large Indian contracts can be lumpy, so one quarter does not make a trend. Still, it is worth watching in the next update.

By industry, banking and financial services grew 2.5%. Manufacturing and technology and services each grew 3.1%. Consumer business slipped 0.7%.

1. Every proposal now needs an AI angle

In his July interview, Krithivasan said almost every customer conversation and deal now has an AI component. That matches what we see. Our clients in India and the USA ask where AI fits in, even for a simple website rebuild.

So build AI into the scope where it truly helps. Think search, support chat, content tagging or report automation. Do not bolt it on just to tick a box.

2. Sell outcomes, not hours

If AI cuts build time, hourly billing hurts you. Clients will push for lower rates, just as they push TCS at renewal time.

Price fixed-scope work around a clear result, such as a launch date or a support ticket target.
Track and share the time AI saves, so the client sees the value.
Keep a small retainer for ongoing model tuning and monitoring.

3. Watch the GCC to AI centre trend

The Best Buy deal is a signal. Many US companies run captive tech teams in India. Some will now ask partners to turn those teams into AI hubs.

That opens doors for focused firms that can offer skilled developers in India to work alongside in-house teams. You do not need to be a giant to help a US mid-market company add AI skills to its India team.

4. Pick your platforms early

Smaller agencies should choose one or two AI platforms and go deep. Clients trust a partner who knows one tool well more than one who knows ten tools a little.

5. Keep security in every AI pitch

TCS leaders flagged cybersecurity as a top client priority. Any AI feature you ship touches data. Plan access controls, logging and data retention from day one, and write them into the proposal.

I would call this a quiet quarter with a loud message. Overall growth was slow and margins did not move. But AI revenue grew around 19% in three months and now tops 10% of sales.
