Google AI Edge Foresight is Google's new local-first Mac meeting note-taker. It targets the same problem Granola solved for busy teams: capture meetings without losing the thread. The twist is privacy. Notes can stay on Apple Silicon, even with no internet.

For software and IT agencies in India and the USA, that matters on NDA calls, shop-floor visits, and travel days. This guide sticks to verified reporting from TechCrunch, 9to5Google, and Google's own AI Edge posts. You will get features, limits, competitive context, and a practical pilot plan.

What Google AI Edge Foresight is and why agencies care

TechCrunch reported on October 8, 2026 that the same Google team behind an earlier local dictation experiment shipped Google AI Edge Foresight. The Mac app competes with AI note-taker Granola and similar products. It uses on-device EmbeddingGemma 2, a 740 million parameter model, to capture meeting notes across apps, including in-person meetings.

9to5Google covered the October 6 announcement alongside EmbeddingGemma 2. Google framed Foresight as a showcase for intelligent notetaking on consumer hardware. The app listens in the background during video or in-person meetings so you can scribble shorthand bullets. EmbeddingGemma 2 then enriches that shorthand into polished notes from the transcript on device.

India and USA agencies should care for three practical reasons:

Client confidentiality: Many delivery calls cannot casually leave the laptop.
Weak networks: Factory visits, client campuses, and flights break cloud tools.
Procurement questions: Buyers ask where transcripts live and who can retrain on them.

Foresight does not replace every cloud note tool tomorrow. It does give you a concrete local-first option to test against agency meeting privacy requirements.

How Google AI Edge Foresight works on Mac

The product pattern will feel familiar if your PMs already use Granola. TechCrunch describes a split-screen view. You write shorthand on one side. AI-generated notes appear on the other. You can still take manual notes while the meeting is transcribed.

Inside the app you can open the transcript or chat with a Gemma 4-powered assistant. That chat is meant to answer questions from the meeting context. Google's developer post adds that Foresight integrates with system audio and microphone, so it works with meeting platforms out of the box, including fully offline sessions.

Knowledge base uploads and Live Assistance

Users can upload documents to build a knowledge base. Supported formats reported by TechCrunch include PDFs, Google Docs, Microsoft Office files, plain text, Markdown, and web bookmarks. The app can answer questions from notes plus those documents. If a related point comes up live, it can offer help in real time.

9to5Google describes another path: point Foresight at project folders, reference materials, diagrams, and calendar. Local files and Google Drive both appear in that story. Conversational retrieval lets you ask natural questions. Live Assistance listens and can automatically answer questions mid-meeting.

Agency caution: Auto answers in a client call need a human gate. Put that rule in your pilot brief before anyone turns Live Assistance on for regulated work.

EmbeddingGemma 2 and Gemma 4 under the hood

Google DeepMind launched EmbeddingGemma 2 as an open-weight multimodal embedding model. It maps text, images, video frames, and audio into one vector space. The model has 740 million parameters, is built on the Gemma 4 architecture, and ships under Apache 2.0.

Google's posts say quantization keeps the footprint small on consumer hardware. On a Google Pixel 11 Pro, EmbeddingGemma 2 needs as little as about 191MB active RAM for text-only weights and about 567MB for the full multimodal model. Modular encoders let you load only what you need for text, vision, or audio.

Foresight pairs EmbeddingGemma 2 for retrieval with Gemma 4 for contextual reasoning. Google AI Edge also shows the model in AI Edge Gallery demos on Android and iOS, plus other Mac apps in the family such as AI Edge Gallery and AI Edge Eloquent for offline transcription.

For agency architects, the takeaway is simple. Offline AI meeting notes are no longer a science project slide. Google is shipping a downloadable Mac demo and open weights you can evaluate against client constraints.

Offline AI meeting notes: privacy wins and hard limits

Google's FAQ, as summarized by TechCrunch, states that Google AI Edge Foresight is optimized for Apple Silicon and can work completely offline. Travel days and low-connectivity client sites become usable again. Sensitive transcripts do not need a round trip to a vendor cloud for the core note flow.

That is the privacy win India and USA agencies ask for. It is not a free pass.

Mac and Apple Silicon only for this showcase app today.
Experimental status: Google is proving Gemma offline models, not promising a finished enterprise suite.
Drive sync still needs judgment: Local files plus Google Drive can expand the data surface if folders are messy.
Cloud Gemini note-takers may still arrive: TechCrunch notes Google could later ship a consumer note-taker across video apps with cloud Gemini.

Write those limits into the pilot charter. Do not sell offline AI meeting notes as a full Windows and Linux fleet solution yet.

Competitive space: Granola, Fathom, Wispr, Calendly

The meeting note-taker market is crowded. TechCrunch lists recent moves: Wispr and Calendly released their own note-takers. Superhuman (formerly Grammarly) acquired YC-backed Fathom. Granola remains the clear product metaphor Google is answering.

Local-first AI is Google's differentiator here. Many competitors still lean on cloud pipelines. If your clients already block cloud recording bots, Foresight's on-device story is a useful alternative to test. If they already standardized on a cloud note vendor, treat Foresight as a privacy lane for a subset of meetings, not a forced rip-and-replace.

Agencies that also track enterprise agent work should compare this Mac showcase with Gemini Enterprise Agents guidance for India USA teams. Cloud agents and offline notes solve different risks, but clients will ask both questions in the same review.

Use this sequence before you put Google AI Edge Foresight next to billable client work.

Confirm device fit. Pilot only on Apple Silicon Macs your staff already use for delivery.
Classify meetings. Separate public standups from NDA, HR, or regulated industry calls.
Approve knowledge folders. Point the app at project packs you control. Keep personal Drive noise out.
Gate Live Assistance. Require a human before auto answers join client audio.
Log retention rules. Decide how long local transcripts stay on disk and how offboarding wipes them.
Map to standards language. Use the NIST AI Risk Management Framework Govern, Map, Measure, and Manage labels clients already accept.
Compare cloud policy. Document when offline AI meeting notes win versus an approved cloud note-taker.

What Google AI Edge Foresight means for delivery leaders

Delivery leads in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Austin, and New York face the same client question: where do meeting notes go? A local-first Mac app will not answer every RFP. It does give you a credible demo when a buyer rejects cloud bots.

Run a two-week pilot with three meeting types: internal standup, client status, and one high-sensitivity workshop. Score each run on note quality, offline reliability, and policy friction. Share the scorecard with your security reviewer before any wider rollout.

Keep expectations honest. TechCrunch says Google's earlier dictation app stayed experimental. Foresight may exist mainly to showcase Gemma offline models. Even so, the feature set is concrete enough for agencies to learn from today.
